Oldies, but Goldies

At the moment it's winter break at the Leube gypsum and lime quarry in St. Leonhard near Salzburg. But as soon as it gets warmer again, the 120t Komatsu excavator will come back to life and then the large Wimmer excavator bucket with quick coupler will also be back in action. Delivered in 2009 with a cutting width of 2 meters, it can hold a capacity of 5,740 liters. The proud weight of the attachment, made of wear-resistant Hardox steel, is 7.2 tons.

In total, the bucket has already clocked up over 15,000 operating hours without any faults. Minor wear work has been carried out in recent years, and the quick change was the last general overhaul in 2019. "All in all, a very well-rounded job. The customer and we are very satisfied," says a proud Andreas Wimmer, Managing Director of the Wimmer Group.

Wimmer has made a name for itself internationally with special developments of this kind. The Holcim cement plant (formerly Lafarge) in Retznei, Styria, has also produced such a combination of equipment for the excavator there.

Quick coupler + bucket + ripper tooth in XL

In 2018, the excavator bucket was mounted on a CAT 140t excavator - the largest excavator in Austria at the time. Since then, the loading bucket with its nine cubic meters of loading volume has been in use for over 6,000 working hours. Apart from wear-related repair work, the bucket is still running, well lubricated via the W-Lock 1000 quick coupler. The ripper tooth is used when the material cannot be removed with the bucket.
